DISASTER RESPONSE
Assisting Flood-Affected Communities in the Philippines
In early August, heavy monsoon rains intensified by two strong typhoons led to flooding and at least 100 deaths across the Philippines, including in the metropolitan Manila area, as well as Central Luzon and Calabarzon regions, affecting more than 3.4 million people and displacing 400,000 others by mid-August. The Government of the Philippines evacuated thousands of people from low-lying and other flood-prone areas to relief centers throughout the country.
